Formal studio recitals are held at the University
of Louisville’s Margaret Comstock Concert Hall. Students
are eligible to perform under the following guidelines:
They must have a piece
that has been performed at a previous studio event or has been qualified
as “recital ready” by four weeks before the recital date.
The student and parent
commit to practice and listen daily for two weeks prior to the
recital. This is a critical time period, even when a piece is well
prepared.
Students must attend the
entire recital and take part in the rehearsal. Be sure to leave time
for the reception as well! For the best experience, the day of the
recital and the night before should be reserved just for the recital.
Concert attire is formal. Girls are expected to wear a one-piece
dress that is tea length or longer. Boys wear a sport coat and tie,
or a suit. There may be no casual pants, shirts, or shoes.
These are the accepted standards for
concert dress and make the event more special for everyone.

Although there
are many advantages to our informal culture, children should have formal
experiences as well.
Students in
Volume 1 will have a separate recital time from those in Volumes 2 and
higher. The Volume 1 recital will be scheduled so that families
who have students in both recitals will be able to rehearse the more
advanced students immediately following the Volume 1 recital. Students in Volume 1
should also attend the second recital, which will have a catered
reception for the entire studio following it.
